This weekend, Copper Mountain, Colorado, will host some of the most decorated athletes in snow sports at the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix, airing on NBC Sports and Peacock. Fans are eagerly anticipating electrifying performances from Olympic gold medalists Chloe Kim, Eileen Gu, and David Wise as they take to the snow in snowboard and ski halfpipe events.
Two-time reigning Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim is back on the competition scene for the first time this season. Kim, who has dominated the women's snowboard halfpipe for years, returned last season after a one-year break and made history by landing the first-ever 1260 in women’s competition. Her trailblazing feats and unmatched energy bring an added buzz to Copper Mountain, as fans can’t wait to see what she has in store this time.
Eileen Gu, a dual gold medalist at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, is another headliner set to dazzle this weekend. Gu hasn’t been beaten in a top-level ski halfpipe final since March 2021. While excelling in her sport, Gu has also pursued her education, attending Stanford University and taking additional coursework at Oxford. Her ability to flawlessly balance academics and elite-level competition makes her one of the most compelling athletes in the world today.
David Wise, a juggernaut in men’s ski halfpipe with two Olympic golds (2014, 2018) and a silver from the 2022 Games, has made it clear that this season marks his final full Olympic cycle. Wise is eyeing one last showdown at the Milan Cortina Games in 2026, should he qualify for the U.S. team next winter. Before that, Copper Mountain offers another chance to watch this legend defy gravity and push the limits of his skiing.
Wise comes into the Grand Prix riding high after a U.S. podium sweep at a recent World Cup in China, finishing third behind fellow Olympians Nick Goepper and Alex Ferreira. Goepper, the champion in China, and Ferreira, who placed second, will also be competing this weekend, showcasing the depth of talent in U.S. men’s ski halfpipe.
