From Nitrocross NEXT to F1. Lia Block Is On The Rise.
Today, ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Williams Racing announced that American driver Lia Block will be representing the team in the 2024 F1 Academy season. Lia will race with ART Grand Prix, marking her first full season of open-wheel racing.
Lia Block, a versatile driver with experience in disciplines such as rally, Extreme E, and rallycross, has been making waves in the motorsport world from a young age. Starting karting and rallying at just 11 years old, Lia has quickly risen through the ranks, showcasing her talent and determination. Just this past weekend, Block was on the podium twice in the Nitrocross double-header at Wild Horse Pass in Pheonix.
“I am so excited to be joining the Williams Driver Academy and competing in F1 Academy in 2024," Lia shared enthusiastically. “This is something I never could have dreamed of. I can’t wait to embrace this new experience and learn as much as possible."

At the age of 17, Lia has already achieved multiple accolades, most notably winning the 2023 American Rally Association Open Two-Wheel Drive class, making her the youngest ARA champion in history. With such remarkable accomplishments, it is clear that Lia possesses incredible natural talent and a champion mindset.
As part of the Williams Racing Driver Academy, Lia will receive guidance and support to maximize her potential throughout the F1 Academy season. The team at Grove will work closely with Lia, providing her access to the full spectrum of Academy resources and expertise.
James Vowles, a key figure at Williams Racing, expressed his excitement about Lia’s addition to the team: “We are excited to welcome Lia to Williams Racing as our F1 Academy driver for 2024. Lia has already achieved a tremendous amount in motorsport, has incredible natural talent, and the champion mindset and dedication to make a success of her journey into open-wheel racing."
Vowles also highlighted the commitment of Williams Racing to improving female representation in motorsport. The team is fully supportive of F1 Academy’s efforts in this regard, and Lia’s inclusion further reinforces their dedication to the cause.
The F1 Academy, an all-female racing series established by Formula 1, will enter its sophomore season in 2024. With each Formula 1 team fielding a driver, all seven rounds of the series will support F1 races across Europe, Asia, and North America. The championship will commence in Saudi Arabia, followed by rounds in Miami, Barcelona, Zandvoort, Singapore, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.
The stage is set for Lia Block to make her mark on the F1 Academy scene. With her exceptional skills, determination, and the support of Williams Racing, Lia has the potential to become a formidable force in open-wheel racing. Motorsport fans around the world eagerly await her debut in the 2024 F1 Academy season.
