Enhanced off-road capability matched with available 18,500-pound max trailering.
Heavy-duty off-roading at GMC has just set a new bar as they have introduced the first-ever Sierra 2500HD AT4X trim. But, instead of stopping there, GMC also offers a special AEV Edition package on top of that with more steel, more badges, and a bold bad-ass appearance.
So what sets the AT4X HD (heavy duty) from just any other HD?
The GMC Sierra HD AT4X differs from the standard HD with its suspension lift, upgraded steering knuckles and knuckle control arms, a rear e–locking differential, 35–inch all–terrain tires, and protective steel and aluminum skid plates. This isn‘t just a cosmetic upgrade, as the AT4X offers an extra 1.5 inches of ground clearance, as well as improved performance thanks to the Multimatic DSSV dampers and larger tires.
This truck puts all other HD trucks on notice. From performance on and off-road, the AT4X HD or AEV edition is now the top of the truck class.
“GMC’s AT4X trim, which will be available across the entire GMC truck lineup, offers customers more premium choices when it comes to ‘do-it-all’ capabilities,” said Duncan Aldred, Global Vice President of Buick-GMC. “Each model delivers unique strengths, with the all-new Sierra HD AT4X taking it to the max, giving our customers the most luxurious and most off-road capable HD we’ve ever offered. AT4X means you can conquer almost any terrain, in complete comfort and with the towing power to bring your recreational toys, gear or camper along for the adventure."

2024 Sierra HD AT4X
In case you were wondering, towing 18500 pounds is: three Tesla Model X’s, Three Mercedes Maybach S560 or the 2020 Ford F-450.
For those looking for a more aggressive off–roading experience in their Sierra HD, the AEV Edition offers a special appearance package with trim–specific 18–inch wheels, steel bumpers with built–in winch and tow hooks, and heavy–duty steel skid plates for added protection underneath. Inside, the Obsidian Rush interior is decked out with leather, massaging seats, and other luxury features to ensure even the toughest adventures are softened a bit.
Along with the rest of the 2024 Sierra HD lineup, the new AT4X offers the most trailering assistance technologies in the heavy-duty class as well as the available ProGrade Trailering System.
It includes a suite of available intelligent assistance technologies designed to help streamline the hitching and towing process, with integrated tools that can help enhance customers’ safety, and confidence, including available enhanced, industry-first Transparent Trailer View for Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Trailering, available Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert and new, available Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailering.
Additionally, there are up to 14 available camera views including Hitch View, Bed View with Zoom and Bed Hitch Guidance, and Rear Side View with Trailer Length Indicator.
GMC announced the Sierra HD AT4X back in October, but this is our first look at the truck in detail. Pricing still isn’t available, however. Look for that to be announced closer to its on-sale date, coming in the fall of 2023.
