The X Games return Friday with more than medals at stake as New Orleans hosts the championship event that will crown the inaugural X Games League champions.
Held inside the Caesars Superdome, the three-day competition serves as the culmination of the 2026 X Games League season after qualifying events in Sacramento and Osaka. Individual event victories remain a priority, but for the first time in X Games history, athletes are also competing for team points in the new league format that has reshaped the competition throughout the season.
The championship weekend features many of the biggest names in action sports across skateboarding, BMX, Moto X and scooter, with league standings adding another layer of significance to every run and trick.
Friday's opening schedule includes BMX Street, Women's Skateboard Vert, Moto X Best Whip and Men's Scooter Park Best Trick before the event expands across the weekend with BMX Dirt, BMX Park, Skateboard Vert, Skateboard Street, Moto X Best Trick and several other marquee disciplines.
The X Games League was introduced this season to create continuity between events while giving fans an ongoing championship battle instead of treating each X Games as a standalone competition. Athletes have accumulated points throughout the year, making New Orleans the decisive stop where league champions and team titles will ultimately be decided.
The new format has also increased the importance of consistency. Rather than focusing solely on winning one event, competitors have spent the season balancing risk and execution to remain in championship contention entering the final weekend.
While the league championship is new, the event still carries the prestige that has defined the X Games for three decades. Gold medals remain among the sport's highest individual honors, ensuring athletes have plenty to compete for beyond the season-long standings.
Organizers expect packed crowds throughout the weekend as fans watch Olympic medalists, X Games veterans and rising stars compete across multiple disciplines in one venue.
Several events are expected to produce headline moments, particularly Moto X Best Trick and BMX competitions, where progression has continued to push the limits of what riders attempt in competition.
By Sunday evening, New Orleans will have produced not only another group of X Games gold medalists but also the first champions of a new era for the organization.
What's Next?
Competition continues throughout the weekend, with additional BMX, skateboarding and Moto X finals scheduled before the inaugural X Games League champions are crowned Sunday night.
