Formula 1 has secured the long-term future of its most glamorous race, announcing Monday that the Monaco Grand Prix will remain on the calendar until at least 2035. The new deal extends the existing agreement with the Automobile Club of Monaco, which had been set to expire in 2031.
First held in 1929 and part of F1’s World Championship since the sport’s inaugural season in 1950, the Monaco Grand Prix is considered one of the crown jewels of international motorsport. The tight and twisting 3.3-kilometer street circuit has delivered some of Formula 1’s most iconic moments, demanding unmatched precision from drivers while offering fans a spectacle in the heart of Monte Carlo’s harbor.
In recent years, the race has produced landmark victories. Charles Leclerc became the first Monegasque to win his home grand prix in 2024, a triumph celebrated across the Principality. This year, McLaren’s Lando Norris secured his first Monaco victory. Among current stars, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, and Max Verstappen have all stood atop the podium multiple times in Monaco, joining a historic list of winners that includes Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Michael Schumacher, Niki Lauda, Jackie Stewart, and Graham Hill.
The extension was welcomed enthusiastically by F1 leadership. “The streets of Monaco have been echoing with the sound of Formula 1 since the earliest days of the sport, so I’m delighted to announce the extension of this fantastic event to 2035,” said F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali. “It is an iconic race that is loved by all drivers and fans, with a unique vibe thanks to its location on the world’s most glamorous Principality.”

Prince Albert II of Monaco echoed the sentiment, calling the agreement a continuation of the Principality’s deep ties to motorsport. “The renewal of the Monaco Grand Prix until 2035 is in keeping with a sporting and historical tradition to which the Principality remains deeply attached,” he said. “This renewed commitment is testament to our collective success, the excellence of our collaboration with Formula 1, and the unique place that Monaco occupies in the international motorsport landscape.”
The announcement also highlighted Formula 1’s investment in hospitality and fan experiences, including upgrades to the paddock and F1 Paddock Club. For the first time this year, MSC Cruises’ Explora II was docked in Port Hercule, offering guests a luxury vantage point and exclusive events throughout race week.
Michel Boeri, President of the Automobile Club of Monaco, praised the enduring partnership: “This extension reflects the strong and enduring relationship between Formula 1 and the Principality. It reaffirms our commitment to delivering an exceptional, unmatched, and world-renowned race weekend to the passionate fans who travel from all over the globe to attend the Monaco Grand Prix.”
The deal ensures that the race many consider the “crown jewel” of Formula 1 will continue to be a centerpiece of the sport for at least the next decade, solidifying Monaco’s place as both a driver’s ultimate challenge and one of the world’s most glamorous sporting spectacles.
