Alpine has announced a significant partnership with Mercedes, commencing in 2026, to utilize Mercedes' power units through at least 2030. This strategic decision aligns with Alpine’s plan to close its current works engine program at the end of the next season as part of their 'Hypertech' transformation initiative. By transitioning to Mercedes' advanced power units and gearboxes, Alpine seeks to capitalize on the technological reliability and expertise that Mercedes, a leader in Formula 1, offers.
The agreement includes Mercedes supplying gearboxes starting in 2026. While Alpine will initially depend on Mercedes' gearboxes, they also plan to develop their own in-house at their Enstone facility from 2027, showcasing their commitment to building their technological capabilities and retaining autonomy in essential areas of car development.
In a statement, Alpine outlined the arrangement: "The multi-year agreement will see Mercedes-Benz supply Alpine with Power Units for the duration of the new regulations era, from 2026 until at least 2030. Alongside the Power Unit, Alpine will also be supplied with Mercedes gearboxes from the 2026 season. The team remains focused on performing in the strongest way possible in the 2024 and 2025 seasons."
This partnership comes after extensive discussions with various engine manufacturers, with Mercedes emerging as the preferred supplier. This choice signals Alpine's intent to align with a successful and reliable entity in the sport. The team's focus is on maximizing performance in the upcoming seasons while preparing for the regulatory changes set for 2026.
Alpine's recent double podium finish in Brazil has propelled them to sixth place in the Constructors' Championship, highlighting their competitive potential during this transformative period. Leadership changes, including the appointment of Oli Oakes as Team Principal and the return of Flavio Briatore as Executive Advisor, are poised to influence Alpine's strategic and operational focus significantly.
