Glendale Removed, Orlando and Atlanta Added. Salt Lake City to Host Final Two Rounds
Another change has happened for the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross season and the gates haven’t even dropped yet. But these changes bring about the entire 17 round schedule and fill in the gaps of the missing races that were left open when the schedule was first released back in October.
During an unprecedented year, not only did Supercross and Feld Entertainment show that live sports could be done in 2020, they showed the sporting world how it could be done.
Even though the race schedule does not look normal, with no races in California at all, and some races run on a Tuesday, race wins will be happy to see the gates drop in January as they have done every year since 1974.
Since the series began in 1974, California has hosted most of the season openers, as the city of Anaheim has become synonymous with the start of the Supercross season. For the first time in 25 years the series will start in another state by opening at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, for the first three rounds and for the second consecutive year, the season will conclude in Utah, as the “State of Sport” once again hosts the season finale, although this time with fans in attendance.
After the trio of races in Indianapolis, Ind., the series will venture to Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla. for two races on Saturday, February 13 and Saturday, February 20, followed by the annual visit to the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Saturday, March 6.
The Arlington, Texas dates remain the same, Saturday, March 13, Tuesday, March 16 and Saturday, March 20 at AT&T Stadium. The three previously unannounced events will now take place in Atlanta, Ga. at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday, April 10, Tuesday, April 13 and Saturday, April 17. The final two races of the season will take place at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City on Saturday, April 24 and Saturday, May 1.
The first seven races will now feature the Western Regional 250SX Class and the Eastern Regional 250SX Class will now debut in Orlando on Saturday, February 20. Both championships will race a total of nine races in their season including the one and only 250SX Class East/West Showdown in Salt Lake City on Saturday, May 1.
All 17 rounds of the Monster Energy Supercross season will feature a standard race format as Triple Crown events will be put on hold until the 2022 season.
Tickets are currently on sale for the first six rounds in Houston and Indianapolis. All ticket information can be found on SupercrossLIVE.com.
FanFest is currently scheduled to take place in Houston, Orlando, Arlington, Atlanta and Salt Lake City as these venues provide adequate space to feature the race team rigs, Monster Energy exhibitions, photo opportunity set ups, food and beverages, plus authentic Supercross and racer merchandise sold via contactless shopping. Ticketed patrons will be allowed to move between the FanFest perimeter and the stadium to watch qualifying at designated times.
