Nine-time Supercross/Motocross Champion Ryan Dungey has launched a specialty coffee company in his home state of Minnesota called RD Coffee.

From racing to coffee, Ryan Dungey and his coffee line RD Coffee want to bring a little moto into your home each morning.

“If you know me you know coffee has always been my thing I decided it’s time to pursue this passion and venture into specialty coffee roasting,” said Dungey. “The first initial plans came in 2010 but racing was still the first priority so once that chapter was done, I was able to pursue this idea of coffee production more. Iniitally I was thinking of creating a coffee shop but it just wasnt the direction I wanted it to go. It took some time and some redesign on how to create this venture but I am happy with the way the product has come together.”

Dungey is no stranger to finding ways to challenge himself and create an opportunity for a win. That was the basis of his entire racing career and why race teams would consult with him even into his retirement from racing.

“Just like a racing, there are a lot of things to learn and if you want to be a good roaster of coffee you have to get the ‘lines’ right to have a great product in the end,” Dungey said to Action Sports Today. “In racing, it was important to collect data to make sure we were always getting better, whether it was with the dirt bike or physical conditioning. That included big details to small ones. I’ve found the same to be true with coffee as we are constantly fine-tuning each area, whether it’s sourcing different origins, roasting profiles, roasting processes and product packing, as simple as it sounds it can be very complex. Just like racing taught me, it’s a continual process and you can never stop learning. For me, it’s important to be open-minded and maintain a learning mentality. I do believe we are off to a good start and we will continue to improve as we grow.”

As the first motocross athlete to be featured on a Wheaties box, it’s fitting that Dungey is taking another lap around the breakfast table with RD Coffee using the coffee as a way of bringing about a conversation on the RD Coffee platform.

“Coffee was always engrained in the racing career in so many aspects,” Dungey said. “Whether it was grabbing a coffee on the way to the airport to fly to the race venue, or sampling coffee from around the world and to the race mornings where we as a team would discuss the gameplan for race day over a cup of coffee, the coffee time allowed us to take a break and have a laugh and talk with each other. That is what I wanted to create by opening up an avenue for people to come and have real discussions with me on a wide variety of topics.”

RD Coffee offers four different roasts for you to try with the bags recently updated with a little moto inspiration.

“At RD Coffee know life can be a grind at times and we want to be a small part of your journey in helping you get to the finish line.”

Well said Dunge.
