Formula 1 Engineering Scholarship Empowers Promising Students Across UK and Italy.
An integral component of Formula 1’s comprehensive education scheme, these scholarships offer vital financial assistance, academic support, and career guidance to students hailing from underrepresented backgrounds. Not only do these scholars receive a unique peek into the motorsport industry, but they also gain invaluable insights to propel them towards successful futures.
Launched in 2021, this initiative tackles key obstacles faced by students seeking higher education, particularly addressing financial constraints and limited access to opportunities. The Formula 1 Engineering Scholarship goes the extra mile by covering tuition fees, living expenses for the entire duration of the degree, and providing essential career-building resources. Scholars have the privilege of engaging in work experience with one of the ten Formula 1 teams during their second year, participating in career workshops, and benefiting from mentorship programs.
Having already supported 30 students from partner universities in the UK and Italy, the Scholarship aims to uplift a total of 50 students by 2025, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment within the motorsport realm.
Earlier this year, Formula 1 extended a warm welcome to the current cohort of scholars at its Media & Technology Centre in Biggin Hill, Kent. Here, they immersed themselves in an enlightening tour of the broadcast center and engaged in career discussions led by esteemed engineers and production professionals from the F1 fraternity.
Handpicked from renowned institutions like Strathclyde University, Imperial University, The University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, and The Motorvehicle University of Emilia-Romagna (MUNER), this year’s scholars represent a blend of academic excellence and diverse backgrounds. Selected based on stringent criteria established by participating universities, these students stem from lower socio-economic groups, underrepresented demographics, including women, and individuals from minority ethnic communities.
The Formula 1 Engineering Scholarship stands as a beacon of Formula 1’s commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity, dismantling barriers, and encouraging individuals across all genders, ethnicities, and social strata to engage with the sport.
