As the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross season comes to a close, with three races left, only 13 points separate the top two title contenders in the 450SX premier class.
To this point of the season, the venue residencies have featured rider sweeps during the two or three races per city venue. Last night in Atlanta that streak was finally broken as Team Honda HRC’s Ken Roczen broke through and took a big step into cutting the points lead of Red Bull KTM’s Cooper Webb who finished just off the podium.
Race 1 in Atlanta saw Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac win another outdoor long racetrack format and many thought it was Tomac’s turn to sweep a series but Roczen had other plans. Additionally, Tomac did not even make the podium, ultimately finishing in 5th place.
With one more race in Atlanta this Saturday, then the final two races in Salt Lake City, the slim points lead in the 450 and the 250 classes will certainly offer up some great racing as several riders still have a shot at the title.
