Last year's Skate Big Air top three receive automatic byes into Thursday's final, so while Jake Brown, Bob Burnquist, and Rob Lorifice were all on hand for practice and to cheer for their mates, the Elimination round featured just six skaters vying for three spots: Andy MacDonald, Lincoln Ueda, Adam Taylor, Pedro Barros, Edgar Pereira, and Elliot Sloan.

Each was given four runs, and after the first it appeared that age would best youth, as 36-year-old MacDonald -- who's competed in all six Big Air comps -- led the field. But in the third run, a generational shift occurred.
